goals:
  • to find numbers in the numberline.
  • accentuate the negatives and positives.
  • add or subtract using the numberline.

vocabulary:
  • number line: a straight line on which there is indicated a one-to-one correspondence between points on the line and the set of real numbers..
  • negative number: a number found before the 0 in a number line.
  • possitive number: a number found ater the 0 in a number line.
  • extending: to stretch out.
to add using the number line
  • locate the numbers on the number line
  • the first number stays there but then you add moving to the right using the other number.
  • count the espace you have until you dont have more numbers then the anwser will apear.
To subtract ing the number line:
  • locate the numbers on the number line
  • the first number stays there but then you subtract moving to the left using the other number.
  • count the espace you have until you dont have more numbers then the anwser will apear
Examples:
  • using a number line resolve this: -7+(-8)
  • using a number line resolve this: 7-(-3)

Unit 6 - Surface Area and Volume for Rectangular Prisms

Unit 6 - Surface Area and Volume for Rectangular Prisms

Summary of Knowledge

The goal of this investigation was to discover and create formulas to find boluma and surface area of a rectangular prism using logic. Students should understand how to find a rectangular prism's characteristics and main formulas to apply them in any situation, even in real life.

Key Vocabulary

  • Cube - a 3 dimensional shape with 6 identical square faces.
  • Base - the face of a 3 dimensional shape chosen to be the bottom face.
  • Surface Area - the area required to cover a 3 dimensional shape.
  • Rectangular Prisms - a prism with a top and a bottom (base) that are congruent rectangles.
Task Analysis
Volume
  1. Find the length, with, and height (dimensions)
  2. Multiply them all. (l * w * h)
Surface Area

  1. Find the dimensions.
  2. Add length * width + length * height + width * height. ((((((You do this to find the 3 distinct faces' area and then add them all))))))
  3. Multiply it by 2. ((((Because you only have one half of the rectangle)))))
Formula: 2 * ( l * w + l * h + h * w)

Examples

1. Clue - one face of the cube has 25 cm2

a.) What is the surface area of the cube?
b.) What is the volume of the cube?

2.

Surface Area = 2* (4*18+18*6+4*6) = 6528

Volume = 4*18*6 = 432
